Many individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, anger and frustration, OCD, and related concerns experience symptoms spanning more than one of these common disorders and clinical presentations often do not fall into just one of the categories listed here. A transdiagnostic approach, one that addresses core concerns across disorders, is likely most efficient in these cases. For this reason, T-CATT providers specialize in the Unified Protocol, a cognitive-behavioral therapy approach that also incorporates mindfulness and awareness-based strategies to target distress related to the experience of strong emotions in general. This allows our providers to address more than one related problem set at once. As part of our intake, we will determine treatment goals and strategies that will be most effective for the concerns you or your child are facing.

Transdiagnostic Treatment

What is Transdiagnostic Treatment?

At our center, we specialize in transdiagnostic treatment—a cutting-edge, evidence-based approach that targets the core emotional processes underlying a wide range of mental health difficulties, rather than focusing on one diagnosis at a time. Using the Unified Protocols for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders—tailored versions for adults, adolescents, and children—we help individuals learn practical strategies to manage intense emotions like anxiety, sadness, anger, and shame, regardless of the specific label or diagnosis they may have received.

How It’s Different from Traditional CBT

While traditional cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is often diagnosis-specific (e.g., a separate protocol for panic disorder vs. depression), the Unified Protocols offer a more flexible and holistic approach. This approach recognizes that many emotional disorders share common underlying factors—such as emotion avoidance, unhelpful thinking, and difficulty tolerating distress—and directly targets those shared mechanisms.

This means our treatment can be especially helpful for:

  • People experiencing more than one mental health concern (e.g., anxiety and depression; anxiety and OCD)

  • Families with children or teens whose symptoms don’t fit neatly into one diagnostic category

  • Individuals looking for lifelong emotion regulation skills that apply across situations

A Lifespan Approach with One Unifying Framework

Whether you’re an adult struggling with worry and self-criticism, a teen overwhelmed by school and social pressures, or a parent of a child who reacts strongly to frustration or uncertainty, the Unified Protocols provide a cohesive treatment framework. Each protocol is age-appropriate and developmentally-informed, but all teach the same core skills: understanding emotions, shifting unhelpful thinking patterns, facing fears and triggers, and building emotional resilience.

The result? A more personalized, comprehensive treatment that helps people not just “cope,” but thrive, across diagnoses and life stages.

Let us help you or your child develop the emotional tools to feel more in control—no matter what life throws your way.

Child, Adolescent, and Adult Therapy

At our center, we provide evidence-based, skills-focused therapy for children, teens, and adults struggling with emotional and behavioral challenges. Our work is grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and Habit-Reveral Therapy (HRT) principles and tailored to each individual's developmental level, emotional needs, and family context.

Who is this for?

We specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing:

  • Anxiety (including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety, phobias, selective mutism, misophonia)

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)

  • Tics, Tourette's, and Habit Disorders

  • Depression and sadness

  • Irritability and anger

  • Frequent worry or emotional outbursts

  • Difficulty coping with stress, change, or uncertainty

If you or your child feel overwhelmed by emotions, avoid activities or situations due to fear, or struggles to bounce back from frustration or sadness, you or your child may be a good fit for therapy with us.

What to Expect

Therapy typically takes place once per week, though we may recommend more or fewer sessions depending on your needs. Our approach is structured, skills-based, and active—we don’t just talk about problems, we teach children, teens, and adults  how to understand their emotions, challenge unhelpful thinking, and practice new ways of responding to difficult situations. We also work closely with parents, caregivers, and other family members, providing guidance on how to support progress at home and strengthen family communication.

Our goal is to help children, teens, and adults build the confidence and tools they need to navigate life’s challenges—both now and in the future.

If you’re unsure whether you or your child is ready for therapy or what kind of support might help, we’re happy to schedule a consultation to talk through your concerns.

Parent Coaching

At our center, we offer parent-directed coaching for caregivers of children, adolescents, and young adults who are struggling with disruptive behavior concerns, frustration and anger, anxiety, OCD, or related challenges. These once-weekly sessions focus on helping you, the parent, make meaningful changes that reduce your child’s distress, even if your child is not currently participating in child-directed therapy one-on-one with a therapist.

SPACE

Our providers are trained in SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions), an evidence-based parent intervention developed at the Yale Child Study Center. SPACE helps parents reduce accommodation behaviors—things like reassuring, avoiding, or modifying routines to prevent a child’s anxiety—that are often well-intentioned but can unintentionally maintain or worsen symptoms over time.

Who Is This For?

SPACE is especially helpful when:

  • Your child or teen is not ready or willing to attend therapy

  • Your child or teen is in therapy, and you’re looking to reinforce progress at home

  • Your family is stuck in patterns of avoidance or accommodation around anxiety or OCD

  • You’re struggling with inconsistency in parenting responses, or need support in increasing empathy and confidence in handling emotional moments

  • You want to learn how to support your child’s use of coping skills and promote long-term independence

PCIT and PCIT-CALM

We are also trained in PCIT (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy), an evidence-based and internationally recognized intervention designed to help parents to manage common disruptive behavior concerns--things like oppositionality, defiance, low frustration tolerance, and aggression--in young children, using differential attention, positive parenting skills, and predictable consequences.

PCIT is especially helpful when:

  • Your child is too young for individual CBT-focused therapy

  • Your family is stuck in patterns of conflict relating to your child's noncompliance, aggression, or defiance

  • You’re struggling with inconsistency in parenting responses, or need support in increasing empathy and confidence in handling emotional moments

  • You want to learn how to help your child regulate in the face of distress or upset

What to Expect

In parent coaching or PCIT, you’ll meet once per week (either in office or virtually with a therapist or virtually, with a therapist and your child present while a therapist provides coaching in a bug in the ear device) with one of our therapists to build your understanding of your child’s emotional needs and develop practical strategies to respond in supportive, yet non-accommodating ways. You may also learn how to set limits and respond to your child in ways that do not increase, but rather decrease, disruptive behavior concerns. You’ll learn how to:

  • Set compassionate, clear limits around anxious behaviors

  • Increase your child’s confidence in facing fears

  • Reduce conflict while promoting cooperation

  • Reduce disruptive, defiant, and noncompliant behaviors

  • Support your child’s emotional growth—without doing it for them

Whether your child is in therapy or not, you have a powerful role in helping them grow. Parent-directed coaching and PCIT give you the tools to make meaningful changes at home and feel more confident in supporting your child’s mental health journey.
